Hi,

I am using Outlook 2002 on a Windows 7 Ultimate platform. I have two queries:

1. My password is not being saved. Everytime I open Outlook I have to select Tools--Email accounts--View or change existing Email accounts--Change and then enter the password. Only then can I send or recieve emails. If I close Outlook I have to repeat the above steps once again as my password is not being stored.

2.Every time I open an attachment Outlook gives a message:

"What would you like to do with this file:

Open it

Save it to disk"

Even if I uncheck "always ask before opening this type of file" it still continues to do so the next time I open the same type of attachment. I want the default to be only to "open the file".

Please help.

The password problem is a limitation of outlook 2002 on windows 7 or vista. See outlook on windows 7 for a utility that will help with the password.

What value do you have in the registry key at HHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute\{0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} ? That is the key that holds the open / save dialog 'don't ask again' preference.

Dear Diane,

Thanks for the reply. The solution for the password problem is too complicated for a layman user like me. I guess i will live with entering the password every time i open Outlook.

In relation to my second problem I am unable to find Shel I|AttachmentExecute\....

When I oppen my Registry key using regedit I get HHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shel

Under Shel there are 3 options :

1. Assosiation

2. BagMRU

3. Bags

Nowhere do I find AttachmentExecute.

Please guide

My memory is fuzzy (heck I'm not even sure why I didn't mention this before)- but see http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/restore-or-hide-the-open-save-dialog/ - this is probably what you need, not the attachment execute key. Sorry for the wild goose chase. There is a 'do it for me' that will add the office document keys to your registry. I don't know if its UAC or Outlook 2002 compatibility issues that are causing your problem.

I opened a file in IE that brought up the save / open dialog and the key was set when i told it to always use my preference.

The key looks like this:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute\{0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]

"WinZip"=hex(0):
