I need a set of simple, but 100% safe and foolproof settings that will sync all my Gmail from the past month ONLY, and will NOT delete or mess up any of my Gmails in their IMAP server. The server is Google Apps free email account. I have about 100,000 emails, a lots of folders. I do NOT need to delete or change any folders, labels, or emails. I only need to send and receive, nothing more. Oh, it would be great, but not required, that I could search my Outlook Mail.
I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow with limited Email access, and need an offline email app. I have Outlook 2013, but haven't set it up on this computer. I did have Outlook 2010 set to IMAP, and it was such a performance dog, I always regretted even trying to let it get caught up from a month being offline. It was so slow, it would never even complete a simple search fro one word. Most of the time, I now use just the browser. (I REALLY miss Eudora.)
I have plans to test trying just switch it back to POP long enough to sync all the email to a client that allows me to easily manage and delete most of those 100,000 emails, and THEN switch back to Outlook. I just don't want to do the testing required so I don't accidentally delete or scramble all of my emails. One false setting, and it will remove all the emails from the server after downloading.
I don't know if you have it, but it seems to me that the best way to deploy this is to start with a preconfigured script or setup that is offline that I could download, then make a few changes, and apply the settings to my PC's Outlook.
Thanks in advance. I sure wish email was not such a pain to manage, but it is. Let's hope that the changes we've seen at Microsoft this week permeate the rest of the company. Finally some sanity by ALLOWING me to use the desktop (Windows 7) of my Windows 8 PC WITHOUT the hassle and intrusion of Metro... Someone there now has a clue...
