Recovering Favorites From Exchange

Using Outlook 2013 x64 and Exchange 2013. My IT guy told me to run Outlook.exe /resetnavpane in order to fix a problem in a new mailbox that we added. In addition to not fixing the problem, it removed all my Favorites. Googling for a solution we checked the .xml files in the AppData folder for my user but determined Favorites are not stored there and must be stored in Exchange. 1) Can you tell me where they are stored in Exchange 2) How I can save a copy and 3) How I would restore from this copy if I lose them again?
 
Once you run that switch, the favorites are gone. There is no way to back them up or restore them. (cleanviews switch is another one you don't want to use willy-nilly - yet I see a lot of "support" people recommending it as the solution for a lot of problems that have nothing to do with views)

The Safe switch loads outlook with the default nav pane and would be a good first test to see if resetting the nav pane might be the solution.

Thx Diane - but that is disappointing to hear. Original problem was creating a new Mailbox. I work with both a PC and an RDP connection to our Colo. New Mailbox is fine on the PC but I get
"Cannot expand the folder. The set of folders cannot be opened. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your Outlook Data File (.ost)"

I have had 5 other Mailboxes setup the same way (AFAICT) for years.
 
That usually indicates a connection error - autodiscover or DNS issues could be at fault, but whatever went wrong, outlook wasn't finding the server. It could also mean a corrupt ost - delete the ost and let outlook rebuild it.

This was a brand new, never used before mailbox? It could be AD issues, mapi disabled on the mailbox, or licensing. (Waiting at least 20 minutes would be first step.)
 
Diane, we fixed the 'new mailbox' problem by removing it and adding again. Not sure what the problem was but thx for your assistance.
