OL16: I have some contacts that have more than one cell phone number. I also have an iphone. I sync OL to iphone using Companionlink (I don't think that this is instrumental to the problem). I can add a note to the cell phone number (eg " 111-111-1234 Sarah cell ") in Outlook to id the number, which will then sync to iphone, and show up in them iphone address book. Problem is that iphone isn't smart enough to figure out how to send text to a phone number that has text following the number.

I can set a custom labeled phone field in iphone, which help me identify the phone number in contact list, but this labeled field doesn't sync to Outlook.
I hate to inflate my address book with new contact listing, and the time taken to set them up, just to deal with this.
Is there a way around this issue?
Does OL19 accept custom labeled phone fields?
Is there some secret (I've tried a number of things) way to format the number in OL so that iphone isn't confused?

Outlook does not accept custom labeled phone fields - but it does have 19 labeled phone fields. I'm not sure offhand how many sync to the phone though - this quicky test shows at least 10 and I did not test the fax fields. For multiple cell phones use the mobile, car, and radio fields or Home & Home 2 (since many people use a call as a home phone)

Diane, thanks. I know that other fields can hold a cell phone number. When I look at the car or mobile field on the phone (or on Outlook for that matter), how will I know whose number it is or where it goes to?

Always use it for same thing - for example, if you have one contact for a couple, always put the spouse in that field. You can add a note to the Notes field about whose number it is.

Unless you have a lot of numbers for someone, you will see the notes field when you look at the contact. My test contact has 10 - if you have less than 5, notes will show on the screen (at least with an iphone).
