I am trying to upgrade from Outlook 2010 to 2013 and cannot figure out how to get Outlook 2013 to stop messing with my phone numbers. I like using a phone number format of +1 123.456.7890 rather than +1 (123) 456-7890 because it is more compact and readable, easier to enter, and more consistent with how phone numbers are often formatted in other parts of the world.
With Outlook 2010 the phone numbers seemed to stay as I entered them if I set the Area Code to 0 in Control Panel > Phone and Modem, but with Outlook 2013 I have tried changing the Area Code to 1234 or 99999, and I have tried setting the Country/region to International Freephone Service. I rebooted Windows after making each Control Panel > Phone and Modem change, but Outlook 2013 persists in changing to the +1 (123) 456-7890 format. The only thing that seemed to work was to precede the phone number with a comma: +1 ,123.456.7890, but I don’t want to do that for various reasons.
Outlook 2013 seems to leave the phone number format unchanged when I copy a Contact from a .PST, and it seems to leave the format unchanged if I change something else in the Contact. However, if I change a Contact in Outlook.com, then Outlook 2013 changes the phone number format. Thanks for any help.
