Outlook 2013, McAfee Security Suite and SMTP/POP3

Greetings,




Has anyone run into the problem with Outlook 2013 eating everything in a POP3 email except for the date/time stamp the email was received.




Problem:


I installed the latest and greatest McAffee to test it on my machine before putting it on wifey's laptop. And it immediately started eating all of my incoming emails from my primary email account tom.griffin@griffin-t.com.




After a tad of hair scratching and using WebMail to access it; I decided to call tech support. Anyways, their tech support left a bad taste in my mouth. But, I disabled the firewall, real time scanning etc. and it still would eat the body, subject, anything on the TO, CC, BCC etc.




Solution:


My temporary solution was to uninstall McAffee which fixed the issue but not one that I am very happy about.




Notes:


This issue does NOT occur when running Outlook 2007 which happens to be on my Wifey's laptop.

I haven't seen anyone complain of that issue but I know other AV software doesn't play nice with Outlook 2010.

Did you try disabling the Outlook add-in? Or disable email scanning? It's more important to keep the AV on "autoprotect" than it is to scan the email since Outlook won't run content in the email.

Thank you for such a quick response; I have posted similar questions over at Toms Hardware and Anandtech and they are still scratching their heads.

The Outlook add-in works just fine; I can get all my usual emails from my Hotmail/Outlook account just fine., It is the POP3/SMTP service that I am having issues with; however since I decided to do 'spring cleaning' on my data RAID array over the weekend I moved the PST files aroud. Naturally all of them except for my hotmail account.

I did notice something that might be relevant. Their setup procedure forces me to use port 26 instead of port 25 for the outgoing SMTP service. I would think that it should have asked me "Do you want to allow this application to access this port" or something to that effect.

I will go ahead and reinstall the A/V software because right now all I am running is Microsoft Security Essentials and the standard Windows 7 firewall.

Any other ideas would be appreciated also.

It looks like its failing on the email scan - Hotmail uses EAS, which isn't scanned by the SMTP scanner. I would disable email scanning in mcafee.
