Outlook 2013 - Odd Sync behaviour

In the process of slimming down my inbox (moving stuff to other folders) Ive noticed some odd behaviour by sync. If I look at the msg count on the new folder after the move it has the expected msg count. Sync chugs away and after a while the Yahoo web mail shows the same msg count. Then after a while (eg overnight) the Outlook message count is suddenly almost zero. Web mail msg count is what it was. If I click on the Outlook folder, sync starts up again and the msg count crawls back up to what it was.

What on earth is going on?

This has happened a few times, the new folder populated by Move... and also in one case by DuplicateKiller add-in.
