I am having a tough time with Outlook.
I access with Outlook 2013, Windows 8.1. My normal configuration is two exchange accounts plus a pop3 account, which I have go into one of the exchange account's data file. This worked fine, and then quit.
Outlook stopped opening -- hanging on the processing screen.
I tried the following, to no avail:
* Attempted to repair the .ost file(s) (actually an IT person in the office did this step).
* Created a new profile
* Deleted all the profiles
* Deleted and reinstalled Office
* Tried to create a profile with just one of the exchange setups-I generally could not get it to link to exchange, and the one time I did, outlook would not open with that profile (mind you, this was a brand new profile and .ost file).
None of these created a situation where outlook would open. So, I again deleted all the profiles (and renamed .ost files) and created a new profile with just the pop3naccount. I did this using the mail item in the Control Panel. "Test Account Settings" there succeeds. Even better, I can open Outlook with that profile. However, when I try "Test Account Settings" from within outlook, it fails with:
Task 'eric@xxxxxxxxxxxxx.net - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
and a send/receive produces the same error.
The pop3 account (and indeed the other accounts, too) are working fine from another client (my Android smartphone).
I am at wits' end (which isn't necessarily all that far from wits' beginning in this case). What can you suggest?
Thank you,
E
