I am using MS Professional Plus 2021. I use Outlook on my laptop and google calendar online and android with my gmail account.
When I brought over my gmail account to outlook 2021 - it had me use imap rather than pop3. Now I no longer have the use of categories and colors in Outlook. I do have the ability with gmail but it does not seem to carry over to outlook.
Is there anything I can do to get categories & color back?
Can I switch my gmail account to pop3 without losing anything?
I also see that my contacts & calendar say "this computer only" - I'm not sure why or how to change that.

Yes, you can switch to POP but will need to use 2-step verification and an app password to add it to outlook. If you use your old pst, you'll have your categories and everything as they were before switching to imap.

You won't lose anything making the switch, unless you started sorting mail in folders in IMAP - then the mail you moved while in IMAP will be gone.

What are the steps? I see I have .ost files. Not sure where my old .pst files are. Do I just change the server from imap to pop3? (Sorry novice here)

If you are using the same computer and just a newer version of office, it should have picked up your pop account and pst.

Where did you bring it from? The default location for PST files is documents\Outlook files or %localappdata%\Microsoft\outlook if the accountr was set up in an old outlook version and upgraded.

My old PC wouldn't boot - had to buy a new one. I do have the old hard drive though so it might be on there. I just transferred things manually.
Those default locations are empty. Will I lose my email that's .ost when I change to POP? Is there a way to save it? I don't use one drive but I have used google drive before.
I really need help. I am editor of a newsletter in Florida and the last 1.5 years info is here as well as my personal account. I can't afford to lose it all. (Freaking out - sorry)

Waiting for next steps

Diane - I am puzzled as to why I haven't heard from you? What am I supposed to do now? I have no .pst folder only .ost that say This Computer Only. Can I change that? Is that causing my problems.
I do not want to lose my calendar, email, contacts or anything else. Is it possible to back up this info and move it to another folder?
I am hoping someone can help me

I'm coming to the party late, so please excuse me if I'm missing the point. But as I read it, your primary concern at this point is making sure you have access to your old mail, contacts, and calendar. The IMAP vs POP and Cat questions are secondary.

If so, then -

1) Are all of your contacts and calendar events visible on the new PC? (Don't worry about the "this computer only" at this point).

2) Can you see all of your older emails in Outlook?

3) Can you see all of your older emails if you connect to your GMail account using a web browser opened to https://mail.google.com ?

Hi Hornblower!
My emails are fine. (I have like 5 email accounts). I have contacts & calendar on Outlook as well and use Google Calendar on my Samsung android phone.
My biggest issue is categories and color coding items using calendar. I use a tool - Outlook Google Calendar Sync to keep my calendars aligned. It used to work good until I have to change from POP3 to IMAP, when I upgraded to Microsoft Professional Plus 2021 (I need to get Publisher).
I was told that IMAP does not recognize color categories and that I'd have to switch back to POP3. I'm just trying to figure out how to accomplish that without losing ANY email, contacts or calendar entries! That's pretty much the bottom line!

Thanks! I would think I'm not the only person with this situation but maybe I am........ I'm just so afraid of losing information.
