I have run into a few weird things I thought I would share. When I install Outlook 2013 on Windows 7 the Desktop Alert settings button is present in Options | Mail | When New Messages Arrive panel. The alert is customizable just as in 2010 and shows up in the lower right hand corner of the screen. However if I install Outlook on Windows 8 that button is missing and the alert, which is now not customizable, shows up in the upper right hand corner. I was not puzzled by the latter behavior because I thought that was the design in Outlook 2013. What does puzzle me is why it works the old way, the way I like, in Windows 7. Hmmm, I can't enter a new paragraph here. The second puzzlement is that when I install Outlook 2013 on a computer that does not have Windows search installed, I get a message each time I start Outlook that says Outlook is completing the install of Office 2013 64-bit components. If I then install Windows search that message goes away. Now I didn't expect Microsoft to hit me across the face with a dead fish and yell "Install Windows Search, dummy". But it would have been nice to get a message such as "Windows search not installed/running". That is my contribution for the day.
