Hello,

how can one implement a "no permanant deletion of e-mails" policy on Exchange (2010)?

I want to keep all e-mails received and sent (from/to all or only selected users), regardless if the user decides to delete them or not.

When the e-mails are deleted by user, they should be moved to some "archive" from which they may be retrieved later.

Regarding the archive of deleted e-mails: these can be offline PST files or anything else suitable, as long as I can search it and retrieve deleted e-mails.

Preferably, the solution should be easy to setup and maintain so a third-party specialised tool is welcome.

If it requires only proper setup of Exchange, please tell me / describe.

Would you please share your hints/ideas/solution?

thank you!

Jarek

Look at journaling - this is set up on the Exchange server and copies all mail set to/from selected addresses to a designated journal folder. (This is not the same as the Journal module in Outlook.) There are similar 3rd party apps that might have more features. We used GFI's archive product years ago and liked it but didn't upgrade it when we upgraded Exchange. The utilities will mention "compliance" - its the reason many companies use these products.

Larry,

thanks for feedback.

Would you please be so kind and provide the full name of the 3rd party app?

kind regards

Jarek

Dear Diane and Larry,

thank you very much for your valuable answers!

Since we have very limited IT resources, can you recommend any solution of these listed on Slipstick?

I do not want an "overkill" - too sophisticated, too complicated system.

we have around 200 e-mail accounts and probably it is not neccessary to archive all of them.

kinds regards,

Jarek

You might want to try the exchange version first and see if it meets your needs. I used the GFI product years ago and it was easy to use but had a lot of features you may or may not need. I don't know how much has changed - I'm sure it has a new interface but I have no idea if its still easy to set up. Sorry.

very nicely elaborated & very useful links, i liked the information as it does solved my issues upto an extent
