IMAP - download headers only

My friend's Outlook 2010 on Win 7 has been freezing up. There are 4 Godaddy IMAP accounts in there, one of them has a pst that is 50 GB in size. I went into Define Send/Receive Groups and set that account to download headers only. I was hoping that the pst would get reduced down from 50 GB but it has not. Do I need to delete the account and reinstall it for that to happen, or will it eventually straighten itself out.

BTW the 50 GB size is not an error, they have a huge amount of stuff in there, they don't want to archive or delete any just yet.
 
It should compact over time if you leave outlook open and running - when the computer isn't busy, it will compact the data file. You can speed it up by removing the data file and letting outlook recreate it.

You can have mailboxes that large with godaddy? If its not the true size of the mailbox (within like maybe few MB) , then delete the data file and let outlook make a new one.
 
How do I find the true size of the data file?

And I can just delete the pst? Do I need to do it from Control Panel, or just from Windows Explorer?
