I can't assign categories in Outlook 2013. With Outlook 2010 I could categorize my contacts ("enemies," "friends," "girlfriend," etc.) I could even categorize my appointments. Has this capability been deleted altogether???

Also, could someone please explain to me the difference between Outlook 2013 and Outlook.com. If I have the former, do I need (or even want) the latter?
 
Categories are not supported in IMAP accounts when you store calendar and contacts in the IMAP data file (a new feature in 2013). If you use the old behavior of a separate pst file for calendar and contacts, you can fully use categories (and flags).

Outlook 2013 is a full featured desktop email client. Outlook.com is an email service with calendar and contacts stored online, like Yahoo email or Gmail. You can read email sent to the account in a browser or in an email client, such as outlook, thunderbird etc. Calendar and contacts sync to outlook 2013 if you use an EAS account type.
