outlook 2013 stops working when sending

Hi all first post and its problems with what to me is a very unstable upgrade.:mad: Hope someone can help:confused:
I have just installed office 2013 and when I try and use outlook it will receive mail but as soon as I try to reply or send new mail the box just pops up

box.png this also happens when I try and attach any file type to the email. Totally at a loss to what is going on. I have gone back to outlook 2010 without any problems.

Does any one have any ideas please answers in simple terms please Thanks to all who look:)
 
its not one of the known issues and the symptoms don't point to a culprit - a corrupt srs file is one possible cause, but I've not seen it cause a crash when adding an attachment.

My two suggestions would be

1) find and rename the srs file for the profile. Paste %appdata%\microsoft\outlook in the address bar of windows explorer and press enter to open the folder where it is.

2) the profile didn't upgrade correctly and is corrupt. Solution: make a new profile

OK Thanks for reply but tried this with no luck cant even send email with no attachment just stops working, still receiving email. All seems very strange as it not only does this on my lap top but have the same problem on the desktop as well and this is set up with a different profile email address. the only common thing that I can see is both computers use AVAST security software I wondered if this could have something to do with it but I don't know where to start to check this?
 
It's probably Avast. I know Norton does not work well with Outlook 2013 and any others that install an addin may have problems as well. The guys with Norton (on windows 8) had to uninstall it to solve the outlook problems.

Does it work in Safe mode? To open Outlook in Safe mode: Close Outlook then hold Ctrl as you click on the Outlook icon. You'll get a message asking if you want to start in Safe mode. Click Ok.

If that works the problem is likely an addin.

Yes that would seem to be the problem works ok in safe mode so of to Avast now to see if they have a fix.

I'd disable the Avast addin - you don't really need it.

I had the same problem, all you have to do is disable the outgoing email scan in Avast! Shields Control, rather than the addin in Outlook.

I reallly prefer to leave this extra level of virus protection on incoming email.

But Diane is probably right, as Hosted Exchange Office 365 uses Forefront email scanning on the MS end.:cool:

Hi guys, I have same problem. I tried in "safe mode" and all worked OK. However, I too would like to leave the extra level of virus protection on incoming mail. I have ESET Smart Security on my machine - I unticked "scan outgoing mail" but still have problem so I disabled "Email client protection" altogether and problem still persists. I have outlook via Office 365 - not sure what "Hosted Exchange Office 365" means from Ebayironman.

Appreciate any help you can give.
 
There are two office 365's - one has just office 2013 and is officially called office 365 home premium. The other office 365 is hosted services - exchange, sharepoint, lync etc.

I have situation where Outlook 2013 was working fine, but stopped sending. It is still receiving well. I have started Outlook in safe mode. I changed the outoging SMTP server from 25 to 587. I have read the treads below. I am running Microsoft Security Essentials. There are no add-ins in Outlook other than Microsoft add-ins. Nothing seems to get it started sending. What am I mising?
 
Who is your email provider and your isp? Do you get any send and receive error messages?

Are you authenticating with the outgoing mail server?
 
I've had the same problem, and I could never find the solution
 
I had the same problem. While I was sitting on hold for a tech for 20 minutes, I checked my Eset anti virus protection and was able to have it not scan outgoing emails. This seems to have fixed the issue for me. Let me say that I have been using Office since the beginning and that this is the worst, most unstable software that has no documentation available that I have used. Microsoft might want to ask actual users what they want and how they want it before pushing a POS out.
 
Technically, the problem is not with Outlook, but with ESET. It's not recommended to scan email - you shouldn't be sending infected messages if the AV is doing it's job.
