icloud sync stopped working

Our Outlook 2010 stopped syncing with iCloud. I uninstalled/reinstalled iCloud, but when it tries to start iCloud, it says unable to complete the setup, with no reason given. I've done a repair of the pst file, did not help. I also read a suggestion online to remove any Contacts in the Outlook contacts, did that, but did not help. Any ideas? Thanks

How fair into the setup does it get? Did you try repairing/reinstalling iCloud?

Is the iCloud addin enabled in Outlook? Any messages in the Event views, Application log that pertain to outlook?

It gets pretty far into the setup - it uploads the Outlook data, then downloads iCloud calendar (which takes quite long, about 5 minutes) then downloads Reminders, then it gives the error message. I did uninstall/reinstall iCloud. iCloud addin is enabled. I tried disabling/reenabling it to see if it would jog it loose. I have not looked in the Event Viewer, I'll try that.

I wonder if a bad reminder is causing it. It'll be difficult to figure out which reminder is bad... but because it crashes on reminders its the logical cause.

Is it possible to temporarily move Reminders and Contacts to another pst?

You can move outlook tasks and contacts to a new pst - but i'm not sure if the problem is with tasks in outlook or ones already in the iCloud. You can try it and see what happens...

Is there a way to see what tasks are in the cloud, in iCloud?

You can log into iCloud.com to review the tasks (reminders) - they should be the same one in the iCloud folders in outlook but they are definitely the ones that synced.

iCloud should ask which accounts and folders you want to sync the first time you set it up, at least it used to di that.

OK I got it fixed. I went into all the iCloud Tasks and Reminders folders in Outlook and cleaned up old or unusual looking items. Thanks for your help.

After setting up iCloud, the contacts have been moved out of the My Contacts/Contacts folder, and into the iCloud/Contacts folder, as expected per what I have read here in other threads. But there are 5 folders that were previously created under Contacts. Now in the iCloud section, those folders are reproduced and populated, and the original folders in the My Contacts section also still have those contacts shown. So the contacts are now duplicates in different folders. Is that the expected behavior?

Also, if I click on an email and tell it to add the sender to Contacts, it puts it in the My Contacts/Contacts folder, where I assume it will not be backed up to iCloud. Is that normal?
