New Outlook 2013 setup

I am new at this. I just got outlook 2013 and am setting up my accounts. I have 3 gmail accounts. I thought to write a set up template but they don't work on all accounts. I want to know why. I'll include it here. This account works, but it doesn't work on my Dionysus.loves@gmail.com account. I can connect (receive), but it won't send a test message.

I read somewhere about using EAS and outlookconnector.exe (64bit), but I can't find it.

EAS is outlook.com (Hotmail) only, the outlook connector is for outlook 2010/2007/2003 to use with outlook.com. You need to use either pop3 or imap with your gmail accounts.

As an FYI - on this

3. Click Manual setup and Next.

I would let autoaccount setup run then click manually configure and change it to pop3. The smtp will be set up correctly.

AFAIK, you need to choose SSL - that will change the port # for you.

Not that it matters, as it won't affect your ability to send mail. What does the error message say?

Hi Diane,
I THINK I got two out of three gmail accounts sorted out (don't ask me how, but I used my template). It would seem to me that if one set of rules (settings) worked for one gmail account, then those same rules would work on all, but that is not so. So, I'm sending it again (maybe a little modified) with the question of why it doesn't work on ALL my accounts. It HAS worked on two. Perhaps it shouldn't have? I'm also sending the error snips.

The problem is with the pop server or the settings. You don't have two factor authentication enabled for that account, correct?

I hope so too! I don't have two factor authentication. I don't even know what it is! One night I'll run the "test account" and it will pass ... and I'll receive mail. Half an hour later, Outlook will try to get mail and I'll get an error message on that same account. Then I change the advanced settings until they work. I repeat this every night. It's getting old.

Is it always the same account that gives you problems? Is it always the same error message? It half sounds like a problem fairly common to POP3 accounts- a lock is put on the mailbox and outlook can't connect until the lock is removed 10 - 20 minutes later.
The other possibility is that Gmail is blocking Outlook because it's making too many connections at once. Go into Send and Receive settings and create a send and receive group for each account, with an odd send and receive time for each - the minimum s/r should be at least 5 minutes. (IMAP will also check for new messages in a folder when you select a folder.)
Ctrl+Alt+S to open the dialog. Click Edit and select an account, remove the check from 'include in group' - repeat for second account. Then return to the main interface and create a new group or copy the group, edit each one to change which account is selected.

Hi Diane,
Sorry for the delay. I don't know how but I've got most of my email accounts working. I still have problems with one gmail account. It's the one I sent you. Problem is, the first time I fire up Outlook and it does the send/receive thing, I get the error that it couldn't download my mail cause my server doesn't accept my encryption method, yet all I have to do is go into the settings on that account, go to advanced settings and click OK and get out and try it again. It works then fine.

One other thing: Just today, I discovered that I'm apparently locked out of the same account. Outlook says "Cannot display the folder. You do not have the required permissions to access the file C:\users\broph_000\documents\Outlook files\b.reodis@gmail.com.
